About Randa:
Madame Randa Kamel initially began her dance career as an Egyptian Folkloric dancer and spent several years with the world famous Reda Troupe, with whom she toured internationally.
When Randa launched herself onto the Cairo Oriental dance scene, she had worked on developing her own style. Many dancers had modelled themselves on Dina, so to find a new dancer with a unique style was very refreshing. Randa offered that certain je ne sais quoi, bringing a passion to the Belly Dance world we didn’t know was missing, until it arrived!
Randa is a very strong and focused dancer, taking her work extremely seriously. She prides herself as being one of only a few dancers to stage a true Egyptian Oriental Dance show. That is, she does not ‘do’ cabaret as in ‘working the tables’; although she may select people to dance on stage with her if she so feels like it. Her main focus however, is to entertain her audience with her technique, song choices, accompanying musicians and singers, amazing costumes and passion for the dance.
Randa signed up to join the Farha Tour and has worked with Fer'et El Negoum in December 2005. We are delighted that Randa will be joining us in Australia for The Farha Tour 2008. Be prepared to be amazed!

To build something strong that lasts, you need solid foundations. This applies to dance as well and that’s why it is crucial to make sure you got the basics right. Strong basic technique does not only give you the solid foundation you need to build on your further dance technique and dancer personality, it also gives you the freedom to express yourself the way you want and keeps you safe while you dance.
No matter how long you have been dancing, there is always something new to be learned in the very basic things you learned while on your very first classes! As your skills increase, your muscles get stronger, your body awareness grows and your knowledge of the dance increases, you will find completely new aspects in all the basic moves. That’s why it is so important to keep working on your technique, to make sure it is and remains intact. Bad habits are so easy to obtain and so hard to get rid of!
So whether you are an absolute beginner or already an accomplished dancer, come with me to a class of discovery and rediscovery of the basics of this beautiful dance of ours. Using the Modern Egyptian Technique, we will cover the very basic aspects of the dance starting from the posture, basic isolation techniques, basic moves in their simplest forms (both soft and sharp moves, arms, travelling and of course the shimmy) and going on to combining and layering different elements.
It will be an eye-opening morning of enjoyment, challenge and fun as we fall in love with this dance and its basics all over again!

About:
Everyone can learn joyous expressive Improvisation! Improvisation is dancing in the moment, in full abandon without any pre-planning of routines or choreographies. Improvisation is the essence of Belly Dance in the Middle East, as it exists in the moment; it has the power to shift the dancer to the heights of ecstasy, and the audience to the vulnerability of tears. However, Belly Dance improvisation can be uncomfortable to many dancers, and to others it can be downright terrifying. There is a good reason for this fear, and there is a way out of this tunnel. Once overcome, the dancer is free to experience pure, joyous self-expression.
In this workshop you will learn how to demystify improvisation! Learn to break it down so that your mind can be present as well as your feelings and emotions.
You will learn how to ‘think on your feet’ and plan in the moment - a major key to improvisation. This sort of thinking can be taught. In this workshop you will learn tips and tricks that will help you bring everything together, giving you a structure upon which you can build your self expression in the moment, based in classical and modern Egyptian technique.
You will learn how to understand and overcome your fear of improvisation. Don’t let your fear of the unknown hold you back from experiencing the true ecstasy of dancing your own dance. Shemiran is an expert facilitator and she will guide you to uncover your stumbling blocks to improvisation and how to overcome them.

Level: Intermediate - Advanced

About:
This workshop will give you an edge on dance creation. No longer will you fear you lack the abilities necessary to ‘pull it all together’. You will be able to unleash the choreographer within and find your hidden talents to create new and fabulous routines with a passion!
You will learn the elements of composition and understanding your music, how to count the music, working with lyrics, choosing appropriate movements and much more. All these elements combined lend truth to the saying, ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’ and this is the magic and wonder of a well-choreographed dance.
You will also learn the pitfalls and mistakes easily made by amateur choreographers and what distinguishes a good piece of choreography from a lesser work – all of this in a fun filled and informative workshop.
The music chosen for this workshop is ‘Harem’ by Sarah Brightman, a classical piece of music with lyrics, to be explored and brought to life in the modern Egyptian style.

About Yasmina of Cairo:
Yasmina of Cairo has performed with her orchestra, Fer’et El Negoum, at many of Cairo’s nightspots beginning with her debut at the Meridian Heliopolis in 1995. She has performed at hundreds of weddings in and around the capital and has told popular British magazine NADA:
“It is the lure of being able to work with a full live band that brings many foreign dancers to Cairo, and there really is nothing quite like the experience of being able to create a show from scratch, putting into it many aspects of the dance from the classical to the folkloric, then presenting it to an audience with the power of live music behind you.”
In Yasmina’s ‘Let the Music Take You’ workshop, participants can experience the joy of dancing to her live band, Fer’et El Negoum. Open to any level, this workshop is about the fun of dancing and not about the level of your technique. Yasmina will guide you through a range of songs and styles with some explanation of the translation and how to respond to this. There will also be a discussion about the pros and cons of dancing to live music.
In her ‘Feel the Music’ workshop, Yasmina will take you through different styles of music with the band and explore how, as a dancer, you can respond differently to each one to create a certain ‘feel’. You will learn how to use taksims effectively to create different dimensions and you will also explore effective contrasts such as containment versus exuberance.
Yasmina teaches workshops in Cairo, throughout Europe and is no stranger to the Australian Oriental Dance scene. She has built quite a following with her gentle yet exact teaching style. Her approach & technique are ‘fresh from Cairo’. Yasmina will guide you as you learn how to work with the band, getting the best possible result. This is the first time ever that this calibre of workshop has been offered in Australia with a professional band brought direct to you from Cairo.

In this workshop Jehan will guide you through her spiritual journey of living and studying ancient Egyptian energies through movement from an esoteric realm.
Jehan has partaken in meditation in the great Pyramids of Giza and has felt the energies of the pyramids that she sees each day from her balcony in Cairo. The transportation and the meditative state achieved through the mind and body connection in Egyptian dance is not a new philosophy, but an ancient practice used by priestesses and temple dancers.
This class will include breathing exercises to assist both the isolation of dance movements and awareness of the role of the mind in the learning process and in performance. This will then be applied to improving confidence with improvisation.
