Randa Kamel: Star Performer and Workshop Teacher

Initially Randa trained in folkloric dance and spent several years with the world famous Reda Troupe, with whom she toured internationally. Randa began her dance career at the young age of 16, in Alexandria, Egypt. She soon found herself in Cairo taking classes with Raqia Hassan and Ibrahim Akeif.

When Randa launched herself onto the Cairo dance scene, she had worked hard on her own style. Many dancers had modeled themselves on Dina so to find a new dancer with her own unique style was very refreshing. Initially, Randa only worked for a short time then disappeared as she became pregnant with her son.

Randa offers something unique, bringing a new style and passion to the dance world that we didn’t know was missing until it arrived! Randa is a very strong and focused dancer. She takes her work seriously. Her shimmies are like earthquakes – magnificent. Randa is a show dancer – she does not ‘do’ cabaret – as in ‘working the tables’. She puts on a show.

Randa signed up to join the Farha Tour in the UK and work with Fer'et el Negoum in December 2005. She adds a completely new dimension to the show. We are delighted that Randa will be joining us in Sydney Australia for the 2008 tour.

Yasmina: Farha Festival Teacher and Performer

Yasmina of Cairo has performed with her orchestra, headed by singer Safaa Farid, at many of Cairo’s night-spots, as well as hundreds of weddings in and around the capital, beginning with her debut at the Meridien Heliopolis in 1995. She told UK, Oriental based dance magazine NADA:

“It is the lure of being able to work with a full live band that brings many foreign dancers to Cairo, and there really is nothing quite like the experience of being able to create a show from scratch, putting into it many aspects of the dance from the classical to the folkloric, then presenting it to an audience with the power of live music behind you.”

It also takes years of experience before the foreign dancer assimilates enough of Egypt into her system to get that true ‘Cairo’ feel, but this is also a dance of individual expression, so rather than copying and trying to ‘become Egyptian’, it’s important that she retain her own personality. As Fer'et el Negoum, the group have worked on various projects over the years, each artist bringing something unique to the ensemble.

Yasmina has taught workshops in the UK, Europe as well as many exclusive workshops here in Australia since 1998. She has built quite a following with her gentle yet exacting teaching style. Her approach and technique are ‘fresh from Cairo’. For more information, please visit Yasmina's Website.
